Sunburst aeonium in a blue Fiestaware pot Flapjack kalanchoes (Kalanchoe luciae) have flat, overlapping leaves. Unify a grouping with pots that are all the same material, then vary their sizes. Plant them with upright succulents and those with contrasting colors and textures. Sticks on Fire euphorbia has pencil-thin stems that turn yellow, red and orange. For a striking color contrast, grow Sticks on Fire in a blue pot. You can see award-winning succulents that are perfectly potted (staged) at Cactus & Succulent Society shows. Succulent specialty nurseries and botanical gardens also offer great ideas. Plant succulents that resemble undersea flora in a seashell pot. Then add embellishments to continue the whimsical theme. Position hanging baskets of succulents so they are haloed by morning or afternoon sun. This is rat-tail cactus (Aporocactus flagelliformis).
Pots that contain geometric, architectural succulents frame living works of art.
